At Touching Hearts at Home of South Dayton\/Springfield, we have the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible dedication and compassion our caregivers bring to their work. Every caregiver has a story\u2014one filled with moments of joy, lessons learned, and deep connections made with the clients they serve. Today, we want to share the journey of one of our dedicated caregivers, Sarah Davila, who has been a part of our Touching Hearts family for nearly a year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Beginning of a Meaningful Journey<\/b><\/h3>\n

For Sarah, caregiving wasn\u2019t just a career choice\u2014it was a calling. Inspired by a desire to make a difference in someone\u2019s life, she joined Touching Hearts at Home after hearing about the company from a friend. She recalls, \u201cMy friend Kara works for Touching Hearts at Home, so I applied a year ago, and I\u2019ve been with the company since then. It\u2019s been the best thing that I have done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

From the very beginning, Sarah knew she had found her purpose. She remembers her first day vividly\u2014March 17th, a day that would mark the start of a beautiful relationship with her very first client. \u201cWe hit it off immediately. Before I left, she said to me, \u2018I hope you come back. You\u2019re what I need.\u2019 And ever since then, we\u2019ve been two peas in a pod.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Building Trust and Connection<\/b><\/h3>\n

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a caregiver is forming deep and meaningful relationships with clients. For Sarah, it\u2019s all about getting to know her clients\u2014understanding their likes, dislikes, and what brings them comfort.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the meaningful connections I have with my client is our shared love for Gospel music. Every morning as she gets ready for the day or while she\u2019s in the shower, I read Psalms 23 and 24 to her. Then, we listen to Gospel music together. It\u2019s a routine that brings her peace, and it\u2019s a bond that we both cherish.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trust is the foundation of home care. It\u2019s built through patience, consistency, and genuine care. Sarah has learned that small gestures, like remembering a client\u2019s favorite song or simply listening, can make all the difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lessons Learned Through Caregiving<\/b><\/h3>\n

Caregiving teaches patience, understanding, and the importance of being present. \u201cI\u2019ve learned to be more patient and more understanding of what my clients need,\u201d Sarah shares. \u201cSometimes, you can become easily frustrated, but you have to remind yourself that they can\u2019t control what is happening. When I feel overwhelmed, I take a moment to recoup and remind myself why I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the most touching moments in Sarah\u2019s journey happened on March 6th, her client\u2019s birthday. She took her client out for lunch, a simple yet profoundly meaningful gesture. \u201cAs we were eating, she told me she was happy that I didn\u2019t run away after our first meeting. She was grateful to have me as her care partner. That moment reassured me that I am exactly where I need to be.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Overcoming Challenges in Caregiving<\/b><\/h3>\n

Caregiving comes with its challenges. Some days are emotionally taxing, and other days bring unexpected difficulties. But for Sarah, every challenge is an opportunity to grow. \u201cIf you need a moment, let someone know. It\u2019s important to take care of yourself so you can take care of your clients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for Future Caregivers<\/b><\/h3>\n

For those considering a career in home care, Sarah offers a piece of heartfelt advice: \u201cYour clients are important, but so are you. Take care of yourself so you can provide the best care possible. And most importantly, get to know your clients. Understanding their likes and dislikes makes caregiving more personal and impactful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Impact of Home Care<\/b><\/h3>\n

Home care isn\u2019t just about assisting with daily tasks\u2014it\u2019s about bringing comfort, companionship, and a sense of security to those in need. Sarah has seen firsthand how home care transforms lives, not just for clients but for caregivers as well. \u201cBecoming a caregiver has opened my eyes to the signs of aging and has sharpened my skills. It has humbled me and made me a better person in the long run. I love being that person for others.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
