How Being Lonely Can Impact Your Mom’s Health
Having in-home care can help reduce the risk that your mom will suffer loneliness and from health problems like these…
If you are in charge of your elderly loved one’s health care and other aspects of their life, it is important that you stay in touch with their doctor. Either you or one of your loved one’s homecare providers should be taking them to the doctors. If you want to help your elderly loved one be healthier and live a better life, there are certain things you should be talking to their doctor about.
Family History
One of the first things that you should be talking to your elderly loved one’s doctor about is their family history. Their doctor needs to know what health issues run in their family. They need to know if your elderly loved one is at risk of certain health conditions due to their genetics. The more information you can give their doctor about family history health issues, the better it will be for the health care your elderly loved one receives.
Blood Pressure Levels
One of the things you might have to do, as a family caregiver, is to track your elderly loved one’s blood pressure. Their doctor might want to do this regularly if they are at risk for high or low blood pressure. You will need to ask their doctor what blood pressure levels are normal for your loved one. You will need to ask the doctor when your loved one’s blood pressure should be checked (multiple times a day, daily, a few times a week, etc.). If your elderly loved one’s blood pressure levels are off, you should talk to their doctor to see what should be done about it.
Cholesterol Levels
Unhealthy cholesterol levels can lead to a heart attack. When you or the elder care provider takes your loved one to their doctor’s appointments, there should be a conversation about cholesterol. You will want to make sure your elderly loved one’s cholesterol levels are healthy. If they are too high, find out what level they should be at. Also, be sure to ask the doctor what they want your elderly loved one doing to manage their cholesterol levels. Then, you and the homecare providers can help your loved one to get their cholesterol levels down.
Medication Management
You should also talk to your elderly loved one’s doctor about their medications. It is important that your elderly loved one, the homecare providers, other family caregivers, and yourself know what medications your loved one is on. It is also important to know when these medications should be taken, how they should be taken, and any side effects that might occur. Managing medications is an important part of taking care of your loved one’s health.
These are some of the things that you should talk to your elderly loved one’s doctor about. If you or the homecare providers ever have other questions or concerns regarding your loved one’s health, be sure to talk to their doctor.
