Ways Companion Care at Home Helps Seniors to Avoid Falls
Fall prevention is a big part of what companion care at home does to help aging adults stay safe. They…
Katrina Weems, Scheduling Coordinator, joined the Touching Hearts at Home family in August of 2020. She brought to the team years of experience in home care, scheduling, and caregiving. Katrina’s job is to match and schedule the Caregivers who provide hands-on assistance to their senior clients. However, Katrina has taken her role even further and has developed a special relationship with the Caregivers who look to her for guidance from anything from how to better help a client or how to handle a life situation. With her candor and gentle spirit, she is also a beacon of light to the clients and their families.
We asked Katrina to answer a few questions about herself, and here’s what she had to say:
“I live in Smyrna. I have 1 dog named Riley who usually goes everywhere with me. I enjoy camping, Kayaking, working on projects around my home, and spending time with my Mom and grown daughters.
I have worked in Home Care a total of about 10 years. I became interested in working in home care when I was doing deliveries for Meals on Wheels twice a week back in 2008. I started out as a caregiver at an agency in Murfreesboro and worked my way up to Scheduling Manager with Senior Solutions. I have also been a Lead caregiver.
What I love about home care is getting to know the clients and caregivers and the challenge of working towards a “good fit” with client and caregiver. I also love how every day is different. It is especially rewarding when we get to hear how much the clients appreciate the care they are receiving and when the caregiver is dedicated to that client.
I love working with the clients because I just have a heart for the elderly. I feel like they always need someone to advocate and look after them, in addition to any other needs they may have. I feel like that is just as important as regular trips to the doctor, eating healthy, and personal care.
I love working with the caregivers because it takes a special person to do caregiving. They must have a lot of heart and compassion for what they do every day. Being a caregiver can be emotionally and physically draining, so I always like to listen to the caregivers and build them up and let them know they are heard and appreciated.
I have always been working in customer service, low end sales and in general a service type industry. I enjoy working in the Home Care business because I feel like what I do every day really does matter and makes a difference. To get a new client and to permanently staff them right away with a wonderful caregiver whom they like and the caregiver likes them is very rewarding.”
Thank you to Katrina for her dedication to the senior community! Touching Hearts is proud to have her on their team!
