Ways Companion Care at Home Helps Seniors to Avoid Falls
Fall prevention is a big part of what companion care at home does to help aging adults stay safe. They…
Regular exercise can help you to manage your stress and to overall be a stronger, better caregiver, but that doesn’t mean that it’s easy to make yourself do it on a daily basis. You might have to try some different techniques in order to get yourself in the habit.
Make an Unbreakable Appointment with Yourself
Appointments are a signal that this is something important. You probably don’t have a difficult time respecting the appointments you make with other people, but how about the ones you make with yourself? Consider setting exercise appointments with yourself and make sure they’re not negotiable. When you know that you’re setting aside that time specifically for you and just for exercising, you might be surprised how your attitude about them changes.
You Don’t Have to Work Out All at Once
There’s a misconception about exercise that it all has to be done in one big workout in order to give you the benefits you’re looking to achieve. But the reality is that exercise is cumulative. If you don’t have half an hour every day right now to devote to a workout, that’s fine. You probably do have several five-minute blocks of time throughout the day, though. Start using those small blocks of time to do a handful of stretches, to jog in place, or to walk around the block.
Find a Buddy Who Counts on You
As a caregiver, you take your responsibilities seriously. That’s why it might help if you find an exercise partner who is counting on you to help them to stick to an exercise plan. Talk to your friends and family members and see who might be up for this kind of arrangement. Because it’s one thing to skip your workouts when it is just you, but you’re less likely to do so when someone else is counting on your company.
Make Sure You Can Focus on Yourself
It’s not always easy to focus on yourself, though, even when you want to. That might mean that you need to take some additional steps, such as hiring home care providers to take over for you on the caregiving side of things. When you know that your senior is being cared for, you may be able to take care of your needs for a little while.
It might take a little bit of time to find the right combination for you. When you do, though, it will make taking care of your physical well-being much easier than it has been in the past.
