For <\/span>Yakima<\/b>, caregiving isn\u2019t just a profession \u2014 it\u2019s her <\/span>purpose<\/span><\/i>. With nearly two decades of experience in CNA work, home health, private duty, hospice, and rehabilitation, she has spent her life caring for others through every stage of aging and healing. Now five months into her journey with Touching Hearts at Home, her impact is already being felt in the most meaningful ways.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this for 18 years,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s not something I fell into \u2014 it\u2019s who I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But Yakima approached it differently \u2014 with patience, attention to detail, and the quiet brilliance of someone who <\/span>sees<\/span><\/i> the individual, not just the task.<\/span><\/p>\n

She memorized the client\u2019s preferences and routines, eventually cutting her care time down to just 30\u201345 minutes without ever compromising on compassion. The client and her son were so moved by Yakima\u2019s care that they threw her a thank-you party \u2014 complete with gifts, a plaque, and a heartfelt moment she\u2019s never forgotten.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI cried,\u201d she remembers. \u201cNot because of the gifts, but because I felt truly appreciated. That family showed me what it means to be seen for the care you give.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Building Trust, One Conversation at a Time<\/b><\/h3>\n

For Yakima, meaningful caregiving starts with meaningful connection. \u201cI take time to learn about each client and their family,\u201d she says. \u201cI ask questions. I listen. That\u2019s how trust is built.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

One of Yakima\u2019s biggest challenges is the clock. \u201cSometimes there just isn\u2019t enough time to give the <\/span>intimate<\/span><\/i> care I want to,\u201d she says. But she doesn\u2019t let that stop her from making the most of every moment. Her solution? <\/span>\u201cPay attention to the details. It\u2019s the small things that speak the loudest.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s folding a blanket just the way someone likes it or offering a gentle word during a difficult moment, Yakima finds ways to infuse care with dignity, even when the minutes are limited.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Moments That Define a Career<\/b><\/h3>\n

Some caregiving moments stay with you forever \u2014 and Yakima has lived many of them. One that stands out was a hospice case, where she cared not only for a dying client but also for the client\u2019s daughter, who stayed at her mother\u2019s side for five nights straight.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was there for both of them,\u201d she recalls. \u201cAnd it was such an emotional time.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

After her client passed, the daughter sent a two-page letter to the CEO of the agency Yakima worked for \u2014 expressing deep gratitude for the compassion, professionalism, and humanity she witnessed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe the words she wrote,\u201d Yakima says. \u201cIt was like reading about someone else. But it reminded me \u2014 this is why I do what I do. I <\/span>am<\/span> making a difference.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

A Caregiver\u2019s Wisdom<\/b><\/h3>\n

Yakima\u2019s philosophy is beautifully simple:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCare for others the way you\u2019d want to be cared for when your time comes.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

And her advice to others stepping into this work?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLead with love and compassion. Always.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

Because at the end of the day, people may not remember every task completed \u2014 but they will remember how they were made to <\/span>feel<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being a caregiver hasn\u2019t just shaped Yakima\u2019s career \u2014 it\u2019s shaped who she is. It\u2019s affected her relationships, her mindset, and her view on aging. \u201cCaregiving has created a love so deep in me that I carry it everywhere,\u201d she shares. \u201cIt\u2019s in how I treat my family.
