Turning Kindness Into Companionship, One Visit at a Time<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

At Touching Hearts at Home, every caregiver brings something beautiful and unique to their role \u2014 and for <\/span>Terri Roggow<\/b>, that something is heart. Almost a year into her caregiving journey, Terri has already created lasting memories and built meaningful relationships with her clients that reflect her belief in going the extra mile \u2014 especially when someone needs it most.<\/span><\/p>\n

When a friend first introduced her to the opportunity at Touching Hearts, Terri immediately knew it was the right fit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI had a feeling it would be rewarding and exciting,\u201d she said \u2014 and she was absolutely right.<\/span><\/p>\n

Making Holidays Matter<\/b><\/h3>\n

One of Terri\u2019s most memorable experiences came through caring for a client with no local family or support system. Knowing how difficult holidays can be for those who feel alone, Terri stepped in \u2014 not because she had to, but because that\u2019s just who she is.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the client\u2019s <\/span>95th birthday<\/b>, Terri treated her to a special lunch at a well-loved Italian restaurant. The celebration was full of joy, complete with staff singing \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d and a table full of smiles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe loved it,\u201d Terri recalls. \u201cIt gave me so much joy just seeing her happy and celebrated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But it didn\u2019t stop there. On <\/span>Thanksgiving Day<\/b>, Terri and her husband brought a warm turkey dinner from Cracker Barrel, complete with flowers and a heartfelt visit. In giving her client something to be thankful for, Terri received a gift in return: the deep fulfillment that comes from truly <\/span>connecting<\/span><\/i> with someone.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLittle did she know,\u201d Terri says, \u201cshe made my day just as special.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Listening, Learning, and Laughing Together<\/b><\/h3>\n

Terri believes that trust is built in the little moments \u2014 not just through what you <\/span>do<\/span><\/i>, but how you <\/span>listen<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love hearing about their lives, families, and careers,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen you show genuine interest, it helps people open up. It\u2019s not just care \u2014 it\u2019s connection.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Those connections often blossom into friendships, like the one she\u2019s cultivated with her current client. \u201cWe laugh, we talk, we share. It\u2019s fun \u2014 and it means something to both of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Navigating Challenges with Compassion<\/b><\/h3>\n

Caregiving isn\u2019t without its difficult moments, and Terri is honest about the emotional demands of working with clients who have dementia.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be tough,\u201d she says. \u201cBut I remind myself to be patient and always treat them the way I would want to be treated.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Her approach is grounded in empathy and grace \u2014 meeting her clients with compassion, especially when communication becomes challenging.<\/span><\/p>\n

A New Lens on Life<\/b><\/h3>\n

Since stepping into caregiving, Terri says her perspective on life \u2014 and aging \u2014 has shifted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s made me appreciate every single day,\u201d she reflects. \u201cYou realize how precious time is. And how important it is to make someone feel seen.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

That mindset shows up in everything she does, from how she greets her clients to how she celebrates their milestones, no matter how small.<\/span><\/p>\n

Encouragement for Future Caregivers<\/b><\/h3>\n

Terri\u2019s message to anyone considering a career in home care?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTry it. The staff is great, the clients are wonderful, and the hours are very flexible.\u201d<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n

She\u2019s found a rhythm in caregiving that\u2019s both meaningful and sustainable \u2014 and encourages others to experience the joy that comes from being a source of light in someone else\u2019s day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Home Care Matters<\/b><\/h3>\n

To Terri, home care isn\u2019t just a service \u2014 it\u2019s a blessing.\u00a0<\/span> \u201cIt\u2019s a godsend to both the clients and their loved ones,\u201d<\/b> she says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being able to provide companionship, dignity, and support \u2014 especially for clients who may otherwise feel isolated \u2014 is what gives this work its heart. And caregivers like Terri are the reason it matters.<\/span><\/p>\n
