Happy Holidays From Touching Hearts at Home!
As the holiday season fills the air with joy and gratitude, we want to take a moment to thank you…
During holiday gatherings, movies offer a way to enjoy time together after a meal. Finding a movie that captures the interest of young children, teens, parents, and grandparents is a challenge, but it’s not impossible. These holiday movies suit all ages.
Arthur Christmas
This animated movie tells the tale of St. Nick’s son. When Father Christmas forgets to deliver a gift on Christmas Even, Arthur has no more than two hours to ensure it reaches the child on time. It’s done by the animators behind Wallace and Gromit and Robot Chicken.
Home Alone
The McCallister family is planning a Paris vacation for the holidays. It’s a change of pace over the typical family gathering. In the rush of getting everyone out of the house on time, they forget Kevin, who was sent to his room. They’re already on the way when Kevin realizes he has the house all to himself. When two burglars show up, he’s determined to set booby traps and ruin their plans.
Jingle All the Way
Parents and grandparents will understand the premise of this story. The hot toy of the season is the Turbo Man action figure. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the dad who is desperate to make his son happy. The problem is it’s Christmas Eve and Arnold isn’t the only dad on a desperate mission to find the toy.
The Muppets Christmas Carol
All ages know Charles Dickens’ story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts that visit the miserly man on Christmas Eve. There have been several movies telling this story over the years. One that suits all ages was done by the Muppets under Brian Henson’s direction.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated story finds Halloween Town’s king, Jack Skellington, finding himself in Christmas Town. He’s so fascinated by the Christmas-y town that he decides to make it Christmas in Halloween Town, but things don’t go as planned.
The Polar Express
Tom Hanks’ voices several characters in this animated, “motion capture” film of a boy who takes a magical train to Santa Claus’s home in the North Pole. The boy doesn’t truly believe Santa exists, so he’s staying awake to see if he hears Santa’s sleigh bells. Instead, he hears a steam train that’s going to take him on an unbelievable journey.
Holiday gatherings often alert families to the changes that have taken place over the past year. If you find your parents’ house is cluttered and in need of cleaning or that their fridge and pantry are filled with spoiled food, it’s time to take action. Senior care services help your parents with meal preparation, housekeeping, and more. Call a senior care agency to talk about weekly caregiver visits.
