Jeff Bryk
Jeff Bryk and his wife Katie, along with their three sons have lived in Elmhurst since 2004. In 2013 his father, Duke, lost his 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Observing the amazing caregivers help his Dad during his final days inspired Jeff to honor his father’s memory and establish a legacy of outstanding elder care in Chicago’s Western Suburbs. Touching Hearts at Home Elmhurst was born in 2017.
Jeff is very involved in his community. He is on the Board of Directors of De La Salle Institute in Chicago as well as Elmhurst Foundation 205 – the fundraising arm of the Elmhurst School District. For 25 years, Jeff has been an active member of the Harvard College Schools and Scholarship Committee. He mentors a high schooler through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago. Jeff also volunteers as a football coach at Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep in Elmhurst.
Jeff holds a B.A. in Government from Harvard University and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.
John Cushing
John Cushing and his wife Jane have been Elmhurst residents since 2003, where they have raised two sons. Over the course of the past 20 years, John and his wife Jane have been extremely active in the community, continually volunteering their time and talents. Having met later in life they have both had the duty and privilege of caring for elderly parents.
Jane lost her mom after 2+ years of being bedridden at home. She saw firsthand the compassion and generosity her mother’s caregivers provided as well as the toll the prolonged illness had on her father. John lost his own mother to cancer when she was only 62. In 2009, at the age of 80 John’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. John and his siblings spent the better part of a decade actively caring for his father. Together these experiences demonstrated how important and necessary it is to serve those in need and to have a plan in place for life’s “golden years.”
From a very early age John was shown by his parents that life’s richest rewards come from doing good for others. It’s extremely vital that each generation cares for the generation before and ensure that future generations do the same. Therefore, he was drawn to senior care in general and Touching Hearts specifically. “I want my children to remember me not only as a loving father but as a compassionate and caring friend to all.”
As a co-owner of Touching Hearts at Home John states that these past 4+ years have been the most personally rewarding of his professional career. “I’ve been thanked more since we began in August 2018 than I had been in 25 years in my career as a manufacturer’s representative”. “Making a positive difference in people’s lives is why we are in the business of providing care”.
John graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and earned his MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. He is an active member of the National Aging In Place Council, Illinois Continuity of CareAssociation, and the Case Managers Society of America.
