Ways Companion Care at Home Helps Seniors to Avoid Falls

Summer has quickly passed, and you are finally coming into the last month of summer. The sun is becoming higher and stronger, and your loved one must be taking the time to cover and protect their skin. If you notice they are not dressing appropriately for the weather or taking the time to protect their skin from the harsh UV rays, it may be because they can’t do these personal tasks anymore. If your loved one needs help putting on sunscreen and even picking out the right clothing, it’s time to look into hiring personal care at home providers. These professionals will help ensure your loved one is taking the time to protect their skin during the final month of summer.
It seems wild to say this, especially when we look forward to the sun yearly but stay out of direct sunlight. This doesn’t mean a senior should avoid going out; getting outdoors and moving around is still healthy. Your seniors should be encouraged to go out in the early mornings or late evenings when the sun is not directly shining down on them. This will help protect their skin and ensure they are not overheating throughout the day. Sometimes getting out first thing in the morning is also a great way to wake up because it kick-starts their system, so personal care at home can help add this into a morning routine.
One of the most stated facts is that everyone should be wearing SPF. It’s something you may hear repeatedly, and for good reason, it is the best way for anyone, even a senior, to protect their skin from the harsh sunlight. If your senior is having a hard time wearing spf because they cannot put it on themselves, this is a great task for personal care at home to help with. Once they have SPF on, they should be wearing loose-fitted clothing to help protect their skin but also keep them cool during the last month of summer.
Now, when you think of bathing less, you shouldn’t think of the word never. However, if your senior is showering daily, it could be stripping their skin of natural oils that can help protect their skin from damage. Encourage them to bathe three or four times a week instead of every single day. Consider their lifestyle and what they do most days before recommending this. A senior who is in the garden may get dirty and have to bathe more than those who are not moving as much.
Moisturizer is crucial for seniors’ skin health. After every single bath, they should be moisturized to help protect their skin and add in a reasonable amount of oils to keep their skin supple. If your loved one becomes dry often throughout the day, they should be adding on more moisturizer. This is a task that personal care at home can help with.
